Two more drones were shot down by air defences over the region. Russia’s foreign ministry has compared the drone that smashed into a Moscow skyscraper to the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Centre. A spokeswoman said: “Let’s take a look at another example: the 9/11 attack on the Twin Towers. It caused an enormous number of casualties but the methods were the same. “The Moscow City district is a civilian site, which only hosts offices and a business centre... We are seeing the same picture now, as if it is repeating itself.” The drone crash did not cause any casualties or damage, while the planes flown into the twin towers destroyed both buildings and killed almost 3,000 people in the process. We now know that the government creates more criminality with these operations than it solves. Let’s not forget that in 2016, thanks to the release of the 28 pages of the classified Saudi portion of the 9/11 Commission report, we know that the San Diego cell, which hijacked the plane flown into the Pentagon, rented a room together with an FBI informant. In 2020, while taking English and flight lessons, Khalid al-Mihdhar and Nawaf al-Hazmi rented a room in the residence of Abdussattar Shaikh, co-founder of the Islamic Centre of San Diego, who had been an FBI informant since 1994. Yet the FBI tells us it didn’t find out about this until three days after the attacks. What did the FBI know, and when did they know it?

To that end, 90% of the FBI’s $11 billion budget should be devolved to the states to engage in their own state law enforcement activities to replace the FBI, except for a few categories, such as international child sex trafficking. Likewise, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s $2.9 billion budget needs to be stripped of all domestic spying programs, and Homeland Security Investigations needs its $2.3 billion transferred to ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Office, which deals with removing criminal aliens, not targeting Americans.

Enough with the talk. Now is time for Republicans to deliver on their promises to defund and defang weaponized surveillance against Americans by utilizing the budget bills. If they wait much longer, it will likely be the last opportunity we have to even mount political opposition at all.

Two online surveys and an experiment

The authors started their study by carrying out an online survey of 2,887 adults. The aim was to establish if there was a link between those people who believe in four distinct conspiracy theories—those relating to 9/11, those relating to the pharmaceutical industry, those that claim that the world is dominated by secret groups, and those making claims about alien life—and a set of populist statements such as "many members of government are shameless" or "those who don't agree with my political views are misinformed." The authors indeed found a correlation: people who embrace conspiracy theories usually have populist attitudes.

The second part of the study involved a survey-based experiment: a group of participants were chosen at random and exposed to a conspiracy theory relating to the 9/11 attacks. Afterwards, they were asked a set of questions to find out their opinion about a number of strongly populist statements. The people who had been exposed to the conspiracy theory were much more likely to agree with them than those in the control group.

I hope this letter finds you well. I recently read your interview regarding your team's research on right-wing extremism and found it to be quite fascinating. However, I wanted to reach out to you regarding your use of the phrase "conspiracy theories" in relation to the 9/11 truth movement.

As someone who is seeking transparency, accountability, and justice for the events of 9/11, I take issue with the label of "conspiracy theory" that is often used to dismiss our concerns. The official narrative of 9/11, which has been used to justify wars and infringements on civil liberties, could itself be considered a conspiracy theory.

I understand that there are some who take their beliefs to extreme and unfounded levels, but it is unfair to paint the entire movement with such a broad brush. We are simply seeking answers to questions that have yet to be adequately addressed by the government and mainstream media.

Apr 10, 2023 — Mayor Adams, open the WTC records: The Ground Zero files held by New York City must be released

As a NYPD officer in 2001, Eric Adams was a first responder on 9/11 and the days that followed the terrorist destruction of the World Trade Center and the murder of thousands of New Yorkers, when the federal government assured everyone that the air at Ground Zero was fine to breathe.

Adams and all the other responders who toiled on The Pile for the rescue of the injured and the recovery of the bodies and the rebuilding later on were lied to. The air was not safe and a great many people, from firefighters to cops to construction workers, have gotten sick and died, with billions being paid in compensation for their suffering and to cover their medical costs.

The truth must come out and now, as mayor, Adams must open up the city’s files regarding the disaster.

Reps. Jerry Nadler and Dan Goldman have renewed a longstanding request for Adams to release any relevant documents about the WTC being held in the files.

Instead of saying yes, Adams is ducking behind his lawyers and saying that he’ll readily hand over everything if Congress passes a law shielding New York City from being sued brd on what’s in the hidden papers: “We are happy to work with your offices to determine potential federal funding sources and any necessary federal legislation to make production of documents economically and legally feasible for the City of New York.”

Such lawsuits are unlikely, as anyone who received a settlement from the federal Victim Compensation Fund had to agree to not take legal action. Furthermore, in the weeks after 9/11, Congress put a cap of $350 million in claims on how much New York City could be held liable.

As the world knows well, Rudy Giuliani was mayor at the time and his administration created and collected records about the biggest catastrophe in New York history. Neither Mike Bloomberg nor Bill de Blasio, listening to their lawyers, relinquished the documents. More than 20 years on, Adams must direct his administration to come clean.

A declassified court filing has appeared to confirm what Infowars has long ago reported: the 9/11 attacks were perpetrated in part by U.S. government assets.

A court filing from the Guantanamo Military Commission, the court considering the cases of defendants accused of carrying out the terrorist attacks in New York on September 11, 2001, reveal that the CIA was closely monitoring two of the hijackers, and may have even recruited them before they flew planes into the World Trade Center buildings.

The filing was originally published in July 2021 but was heavily redacted. Now a “unexpurgated” copy has been provided by independent researchers, according to RT’s Felix Livshitz.

The document details DEA veteran Don Canestraro’s investigation of potential Saudi government involvement in the 9/11 attacks, conducted at the request of the defendants’ lawyers.

Canesraro and numerous FBI agents in the investigation appear to conclude that the CIA obstructed official investigations ostensibly to conceal its infiltration of Al Qaeda.

An explosive court filing from the Guantanamo Military Commission – a court considering the cases of defendants accused of carrying out the “9/11” terrorist attacks on New York – has seemingly confirmed the unthinkable.

The document was originally published via a Guantanamo Bay court docket, but while public, it was completely redacted. Independent researchers obtained an unexpurgated copy. It is an account by the Commission’s lead investigator, DEA veteran Don Canestraro, of his personal probe of potential Saudi government involvement in the 9/11 attacks, conducted at the request of the defendants’ lawyers.

Two of the hijackers were being closely monitored by the CIA and may, wittingly or not, have been recruited by Langley long before they flew planes into the World Trade Center buildings.
The story of two men

Of the great many enduring mysteries of the 9/11 attacks still unresolved over two decades later, perhaps the biggest and gravest relate to the activities of Nawaf al-Hazmi and Khalid al-Mihdhar in the 18 months leading up to that fateful day. The pair traveled to the US on multi-entry visas in January 2000, despite having repeatedly been flagged by the CIA and NSA previously as likely Al Qaeda terrorists.

Mere days before their arrival, they attended an Al Qaeda summit in Kuala Lumpur, during which key details of the 9/11 attacks are likely to have been discussed and agreed. The meeting was secretly photographed and videotaped by Malaysian authorities at the direct request of the CIA’s Alec Station, a special unit set up to track Osama bin Laden, although oddly, no audio was captured.

Still, this background should’ve been sufficient to prevent Hazmi and Midhar from entering the US – or at least enough for the FBI to be informed of their presence in the country. As it was, they were admitted for a six-month period at Los Angeles International airport without incident, and Bureau representatives within Alec Station were blocked from sharing this information with their superiors by the CIA.

“We’ve got to tell the Bureau about this. These guys clearly are bad. One of them, at least, has a multiple-entry visa to the US. We’ve got to tell the FBI,” Mark Rossini, a member of Alec Station, has recalled discussing with his colleagues. “[But the CIA] said to me, ‘No, it’s not the FBI’s case, not the FBI’s jurisdiction.’”

Immediately upon arrival, Hazmi and Midhar encountered a Saudi national residing in California named Omar al-Bayoumi in an airport restaurant. Over the next two weeks, he helped them find an apartment in San Diego, co-signed their lease, gave them $1,500 towards their rent, and introduced them to Anwar al-Awlaki, an imam at a local mosque. Al-Awlaki was killed in a US drone strike in Yemen in 2011.

In the wake of 9/11, Bayoumi unsurprisingly became a subject of interest in an FBI probe of potential Saudi involvement in the attacks, known as Operation Encore. In a 2003 interview with investigators in Riyadh, he claimed his meeting with Hazmi and Midhar was a coincidence – he heard them speaking Arabic, realized they couldn’t speak English, and decided to assist them out of charity.

The Bureau reached a very different conclusion – Bayoumi was a Saudi intelligence operative and part of a wider militant Wahhabist network in the US, which handled a myriad of potential and actual terrorists, and monitored the activities of anti-Riyadh dissidents abroad. What’s more, Encore judged there to be a 50/50 chance he had advanced knowledge of the 9/11 attacks before they happened, and so did the Saudi government.
Why was it hidden?

Those bombshell facts remained hidden from public view until March 2022, when a trove of FBI documents was declassified at the request of the White House. The newly released Guantanamo Military Commission filing sheds even further light on Bayoumi’s contact with Hazmi and Midhar – and in turn, the CIA’s keen interest in them, their activities throughout their stay in the US, and refusal to disclose their presence to the FBI until late August 2001.

The filing is an account by the Commission’s lead investigator, DEA veteran Don Canestraro, of his personal probe of potential Saudi government involvement in the 9/11 attacks, conducted at the request of the defendants’ lawyers. Based on a review of classified information held by, and interviews with representatives of, the FBI and Pentagon, the content strongly suggests that the CIA obstructed official investigations to conceal its penetration of Al Qaeda.

That’s the judgment of four separate, unnamed FBI agents interviewed by Canestraro who worked on investigations into the 9/11 attacks. The most incendiary charges were leveled by a Bureau agent referred to in his report as ‘CS-23’, who had “extensive knowledge of counterterrorism and counterintelligence matters.”

CS-23 recounted how the CIA repeatedly lied and stonewalled the FBI in its investigations into Bayoumi. For example, while Agency officials claimed to possess no files on him when asked by Operation Encore representatives, CS-23 knew for a fact this was a “falsehood,” and the CIA maintained several operational files on Bayoumi, amounting to an extensive paper trail.

Furthermore, CS-23 was certain that the CIA used its liaison relationship with the Saudi intelligence services to attempt to recruit Hazmi and Midhar, and circumvent laws prohibiting the Agency from conducting spying operations on US soil, by using Riyadh as a go between.

This account was backed up by another FBI investigator, ‘CS-3,’ who further claims that Bayoumi setting up bank accounts and renting an apartment for the two hijackers in San Diego “was done at the behest of the CIA.” Any information provided to Bayoumi would then be fed back to Alec Station.

CS-3 felt it odd that this CIA unit, situated in the US and staffed by analysts, was involved in recruiting Al Qaeda operatives, as such work is typically the responsibility of case officers trained in covert operations based overseas. ‘CS-IO’ concurred that this arrangement was “highly unusual,” and made it “nearly impossible for [Alec] Station to develop informants inside of Al Qaeda from its base several thousand miles from the countries where Al Qaeda was suspected of operating.”

Despite such tantalizing leads, CS-23 claims senior FBI officials suppressed further investigations into the CIA’s relationship with Bayoumi and the recruitment of Hazmi and Midhar, and Bureau representatives testifying before the joint Senate and Congressional inquiry into 9/11 were instructed not to reveal the full extent of Saudi involvement with Al-Qaeda.

For their part, CS-3 stated that before they and their colleagues were interviewed by the joint inquiry, CIA officials within Alec Station told them not to cooperate fully with investigators and they were looking to “hang someone” for 9/11.

Canestraro does not make any conclusions as to why the CIA concealed vital information from the FBI prior to the attacks, which potentially could have prevented their execution, and why the Bureau subsequently played along with the Agency’s coverup. Although one answer is provided by the unusual nature of Alec Station’s setup.

Namely, that far from infiltrating an Al Qaeda cell to avert terrorism, the Agency was seeking to influence and direct its activities in order to cause terrorism, outside standard recruitment channels. Having stumbled upon such a monstrous connivance, the FBI would’ve known well to leave the entire subject well alone.

When a member of the CIA’s Alex Station suggested informing the FBI about the two hijackers obtaining visas to the U.S., he was shut down.

“We’ve got to tell the Bureau about this. These guys clearly are bad. One of them, at least, has a multiple-entry visa to the US. We’ve got to tell the FBI,” Mark Rossini, a member of Alec Station, recalled telling his colleagues. “[But the CIA] said to me, ‘No, it’s not the FBI’s case, not the FBI’s jurisdiction.’”

The FBI agents in the files claimed the CIA also concealed information from the bureau about the two hijackers’ main U.S. contact, Omar al-Bayoumi, who was under FBI investigation.

Additionally, they believe the CIA used Saudi Arabia as a go-between to recruit the two hijackers’ in order to circumvent laws forbidding the Agency from conducting spy operations on U.S. soil.

Though the lead investigator Canestraro doesn’t assert the reason behind the CIA’s decision to withhold information from the FBI that could have prevented the 9/11 attacks, the nature of the CIA’s clandestine Alec Station suggests nefarious motives.

“Canestraro does not make any conclusions as to why the CIA concealed vital information from the FBI prior to the attacks, which potentially could have prevented their execution, and why the Bureau subsequently played along with the Agency’s coverup. Although one answer is provided by the unusual nature of Alec Station’s setup,” Livshitz wrote.

“Namely, that far from infiltrating an Al Qaeda cell to avert terrorism, the Agency was seeking to influence and direct its activities in order to cause terrorism, outside standard recruitment channels. Having stumbled upon such a monstrous connivance, the FBI would’ve known well to leave the entire subject well alone.”

Twenty years later, at home and abroad, the world is more chaotic and less free because the U.S. government exploited our fear to erode our liberties and launch two disastrous foreign wars. Today's defining crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic, has created another opportunity to restrict freedom in the name of protecting us from a fearsome enemy—in this case, a viral infection. So what will the world look like 20 years from now? September 11 led to illegal detentions, torture, routine, warrantless spying, two wars, and an explosion of government spending. COVID-19 has brought unconstitutional restrictions on travel between states and cities; vaccine and mask mandates; lockdown orders that closed businesses, schools, and churches; restrictions on dining in restaurants and exercising in gyms; and an explosion of government spending. Early in the pandemic, President Donald Trump invoked the Defense Production Act to compel businesses to produce ventilators and other supplies for combatting the virus when the federal government didn't like the terms offered. After 9/11, Congress created the Department of Homeland Security and nationalized airport security by creating the Transportation Security Administration. The federal government also conscripted communications companies into monitoring customers, even going so far as to install NSA equipment in AT&T facilities. Politicians seem to understand instinctively that a crisis is an opening to push freedom-eroding policies that previously were too hard to get the public to accept—such as the chaotic war in Iraq. Iraq had nothing to do with the attacks, but regime change there had been on the wish list of senior Bush administration officials long before 9/11, and the terrorist attack created an opening. For then-Sen. Joe Biden, the 9/11 attacks provided an opening to railroad through Congress a bill that he had drafted following the Oklahoma City bombing but couldn't get passed. It became the PATRIOT Act. Twenty years later, even while correctly predicting that the Supreme Court would overturn the order, President Biden extended an emergency federal eviction moratorium that was always based on faulty science, violating the property rights of millions of landlords. September 11 reminds us that drastic policies and accumulated authority have a nasty way of lingering long after the emergencies for which they were invoked have come to an end. It created an opportunity for new government spending on initiatives that had little to do with keeping Americans safe. Congress diverted billions of dollars to often wasteful "homeland security" spending, including counterterrorism funding for small towns hundreds of miles from major American cities. As 60 Minutes reported in 2005, the money was spent on Segways, air-conditioned garbage trucks, bulletproof dog vests, transporting lawnmowers to lawnmower races, and decontamination units nobody knew how to operate. Today's proverbial "crisis" that's "too good to waste" has led to trillions in passed or proposed spending for so-called "recovery" and "infrastructure." Somehow, that's been defined to include internet access, child tax credits, electric-vehicle charging stations, corporate subsidies, and "buy American" mandates. Everything, it turns out, is a necessary expense for fighting COVID-19 when politicians see opportunity. Twenty years from now, we may well still be living with crippling debt, "emergency" government programs that somehow were never phased out, and pandemic-fueled restrictions on our daily lives. Or we'll look back at the pandemic as a turning point, in which Americans rediscovered their ability to move past a crisis and reclaim control over their own lives—if we can break the pattern set after 9/11. The 20-year anniversary of September 11, 2001, is a day for mourning the loss of the nearly 3,000 people who perished tragically on that horrific day—and to dwell on how political leaders used fear to steal our liberties. Among the godawful things he explicates are Academy Award-winning actress Joan Crawford's bizzare and patently false 1971 lifestyle guide, My Way of Life; the misbegotten Brady Bunch Variety Hour, which improbably included numerous "water ballet" routines along with endless dad jokes; cocaine-addicted movie producer Robert Evans' 1981 court-ordered, star-studded, anti-drug TV special Get High on Yourself; and the entirety of billionaire Mike Bloomberg's 2020 presidential candidacy. Rabin was the headwriter for The A.V. Club for two decades and the inventor of the popular-but-controversial term "Manic Pixie Dreamgirl" to describe a recurring film character who "exists solely in the fevered imaginations of sensitive writer-directors to teach broodingly soulful young men to embrace life and its infinite mysteries and adventures." He now runs his own website, Nathan Rabin's Happy Place, where he sifts through all manner of cultural detritus with endless wit and energy. He also co-hosts Travolta/Cage, a podcast about "the greatest actors in history." The 45-year-old Rabin talks with Nick Gillespie about how his Gen X roots inform his appreciation for and critique of consumer culture. Kids his age, he explains, learned early on through D.A.R.E. and transparently phony TV shows that adults and other authorities were often lying. Gen X came of age in the 1990s, he says, a time when the belief that technology would make everything perfect was widespread, an optimism severely tested both by the bursting of the tech bubble and the 9/11 attacks. "Irony and satire and comedy," he says, "can bring light to a very dark situation, and it can be very cathartic being able to laugh at things that you're not supposed to laugh about or being able to laugh about things that are incredibly dark." Rabin also discusses how musician Grimes, who had a widely covered relationship and two children with billionaire Elon Musk, is reclaiming—or perhaps satirizing—the manic pixie dream girl trope and why Weird Al Yankovic, the subject of a good deal of his writing, has had a career far longer than most of the people he parodies.
