New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has issued an emergency public health order suspending the concealed and open carry of firearms for 30 days in Albuquerque. It didn't take long for pro-Second Amendment protesters and even some gun control-loving Democrats to condemn the order as extremely unconstitutional. So, why did she issue it, and only for 30 days? Evan McMullin 2022 vs Evan McMullin 2016. McMullin has taken opposing stances now compared to a few years ago, specifically in the realms of abortion, gun control, and the Affordable Care Act, sometimes called ObamaCare. Now is it OK for people to change their minds? Definitely! But I'm also a fan of political candidates who are transparent with their positions and principles, and when they might change their opinions on a given subject they could point to an overriding principle they are striving for, or new information that has come forward to change their minds. So far, McMullin has shown a whole lot of change in opinions, but has yet to show his foundational principles common to both his past and present political campaigns. He could surprise me with just such information when debate season rolls around, but I’m not holding my breath.

Birth of ATF
Under Director Rex Davis, ATF becomes an independent Bureau on July 1, 1972, reporting directly to the U.S. Department of Treasury’s Office of Enforcement, Tariff and Trade Affairs, and Operations.
ATF’s jurisdiction increases through new legislation such as the Gun Control Act of 1968, Title VII of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Street Act of 1968 and Title XI of the Organized Crime Control Act of 1970.
Is this agency a necessity? Have they grown beyond their intended scope? Do we need government to protect us?

On February 14, 2018, 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz opened fire on students and staff at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in the Miami suburban town of Parkland, Florida, murdering 17 people and injuring 17 others. Cruz, a former student at the school, fled the scene on foot by blending in with other students, and was arrested without incident approximately one hour later in nearby Coral Springs. Police and prosecutors investigated "a pattern of disciplinary issues and unnerving behavior".
The killing spree is the deadliest high school shooting in United States history, surpassing the Columbine High School massacre that killed 15, including the perpetrators, in Colorado in April 1999. The shooting came at a period of heightened public support for gun control that followed mass shootings in Paradise, Nevada, and in Sutherland Springs, Texas, in October and November 2017.
